Older vs. early onset Parkinson’s – Is there a difference in goals? 2

What are your desires for Parkinson’s? Is there an essential difference between older people with Parkinson’s and those with the early onset version of the disease? What are your thoughts?

“We want a cure,” said Kelly Campbell Thomson. “I want to be cured, but (most) older people with Parkinson’s want better medications and comfort, which is fine … but there’s where the line is drawn.

“I don’t want comfort, I want the cure.”

Thank you for all you’ve done and continue to do to find a cure for pd. I was dx with pd when I was 40yr old. I was diagnosed with idiopathic pd. I have no family history. Maternal or paternal. I have had DBS in September 2016. Then in May 2015, had an attempted jpeg placement. Ended up with a ruptured bowel, septic, hospitalized for 3 mos. all for duos, which obviously a disaster. Week before Dbs I went to wheelchair and at times for the past yr. I’ve walked with a walker and PT @ my home. Basically I’m wheel chair bound for past 6 months. My goal is to walk again. I promised not to ever give up but my inability to walk has totally chged my life. What I wouldn’t give to walk again. I’m very interested in your research.

Hello Patricia, I am so sorry to hear about your struggles. I wish I could offer more words of encouragement. I’ll just say that there are many fine research projects going on now and I hope that something will emerge soon that will help you.
